I love Hawaii. It is one of my favourite places to visit and I keep returning, not only to the same spot, but also the same hotel – Ohana Waikiki West.
Located on Oahu island, Waikiki is a very popular tourist destination – and rightfully so. With great hotels, beautiful beaches, lovely people and holiday atmosphere, it is an awesome destination.
Although I have been to Hawaii at least 5 times, I keep discovering new places and adventures. One thing is for sure, if you visit Hawaii, you will never be bored.
With dozens of hotels to choose from near Waikiki beach I have always stayed at Ohana Waikiki West (previously known as Outrigger West) as it is centrally located, has large comfortable rooms, a swimming pool, free internet access and is very reasonably priced.
View from the hotel
The hotel is situated across the street from The International Market Place – a fabulous place to shop, 5 minute's walk from the famous Waikiki Beach and a bus stop is right outside the hotel’s front door, providing you with easy transport solution. But it doesn’t stop there – cross the street and you are at a full service supermarket and have access to plenty of dining and shopping options.
The rooms are tastefully decorated with island theme and feature a kitchenette with a stovetop, microwave, refrigerator, cookware and tableware. All 650 rooms have a balcony, air conditioning, cable TV, hairdryer, iron & ironing board and telephone.
Ohana Waikiki West is 18 storeys high and includes three elevators, outdoor pool with a large sundeck and a poolside bar. If you need washing done, you can either use the hotel’s coin operated laundry or take advantage of laundry/dry cleaning valet service. You will also find ice machines, automated teller machine, vending machines and a business centre as well as Activities Centre which can organise tours, attractions and airport transfers.
The reception desk is open 24 hours, however be aware that most rooms are not available for check in until 2 or 3pm. If you arrive early in the morning, as many Australian flights do, you will not be able to get into your room until the afternoon, unless you have made prior arrangements. Naturally, you can leave your bags with the porter and go exploring the area or spend the day at the hotel’s pool.
Over the years, we have done and seen many stunning places, although there is still plenty more left to explore. Some of our favourite adventures included a private island tour of Oahu. This can be arranged via the activities centre and you get your own shuttle driver who will take you wherever you wish to go. If you haven’t been to Oahu before, you can leave it up to the driver/guide to show you around. The tour usually lasts 8 hours.

Another great experience is a swim with dolphins at SeaLife Park, a trip aboard a submarine, a tour of Waikiki on a Segway, a shopping outing to Waikele Outlet Mall and a visit to Pearl Harbour.
Dolphin swim at Sealife Park
Other exciting places to visit include the Polynesian Cultural Centre, Wet'n'Wild Water Park, The Pipeline – Hawaii’s top surfing destination and weekend markets at the Aloha Stadium.
If you are visiting Hawaii, I recommend staying for at least 2 weeks. I guarantee you will never be bored and will get to see and do things you never dreamed of.
