If you’re looking for a caravan park near Airlie Beach, it would be hard to find one closer than Island Gateway Holiday Park. It as all the basics covered: it's clean, has friendly staff (who give honest advice on tours), offers free internet and has a tennis court, pool and playground for your entertainment. Every day at 4.00pm there's even bird-feeding.
Accommodation at the park includes the usual powered and unpowered sites, as well as cabins, but there's also motel units and things called campotels (or permanent tents). This last option consists of a fibreglass and canvas tent mounted on something that looks like it's designed to be towed behind a car (it costs $35.00 a night).
Once you get to Jubilee Pocket, where the park is found, you've left the main area of Airlie. However, there is an IGA next door and across the road is A Hotel (beware of the noise it creates some nights, especially loud in the campotels near the road).
